On August 29, 2025, Mawarid Mining Company welcomed a delegation of experts and members from the Oman Geological Society for a field visit to the Ghuzayn Mine in Wilayat Al Khaboura.

The visit aimed to review the mining activities and environmental programs implemented by the company, in addition to exchanging expertise and discussing best practices in the fields of exploration and sustainable mining.

The visitors expressed their appreciation for the company’s efforts in promoting sustainability practices and adhering to environmental standards, emphasizing the importance of such engagements in fostering collaboration between the private sector and scientific and professional associations.

As part of its ongoing commitment to supporting sustainability and social responsibility initiatives, Mawarid Mining Company, in coordination with the Environment Authority in North Al Batinah, conducted a comprehensive field study of soil samples from the Khor Kalba area in Wilayat Shinas.

A specialized team from the company participated in collecting and analyzing the samples on-site, with the aim of assessing the environmental status and supporting the Authority’s efforts in preserving the coastal environment and biodiversity in the region.

This collaboration reflects the company’s dedication to supporting national environmental initiatives and strengthening partnerships with relevant entities, in line with its pursuit of sustainable development and the conservation of natural resources.

In support of social responsibility collaboration between Mawarid Mining Company and the Environment Authority, represented by the Environment Center in Wilayat Al Suwaiq, the company hosted a student delegation from several higher education institutions on a field visit to the Ghuzayn Copper Mine. The visit was organized by the Environment Center in Suwaiq.

The purpose of the visit was to familiarize students with the stages and activities of copper extraction, as well as to review the environmental systems applied on-site, including:

1. Water recycling and reuse in operational processes.
2. Dust control systems
3. Noise reduction procedures.

The students expressed great interest in the technologies used at the site and commended the company’s efforts in implementing environmental sustainability practices and minimizing negative impacts on the natural surroundings.

During the last holy month of Ramadan, Mawarid Mining Company carried out a charitable campaign to distribute food supplies to families living around the Ghuzayn Mine in Wilayat Al Khaboura, as part of its social responsibility programs.
The initiative was warmly welcomed and appreciated by the local community and contributed to strengthening the spirit of solidarity and fostering closer ties between the company and the community during the blessed month.

As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen emergency response readiness, and in continuous coordination with relevant governmental and community entities, Mawarid Mining Company carried out a joint preparatory drill at the Ghuzayn Copper Mine site.

The exercise involved the participation of the Civil Defense and Ambulance Authority team in Wilayat Al Khaboura, the local Health Complex team, as well as the Occupational Health and Safety teams from Mawarid Mining and Gulf Rock Company.

The drill formed part of a comprehensive plan to test existing emergency procedures. It simulated an incident involving an injured worker inside the mine and activated the pre-established emergency plan. The exercise covered all stages of response, starting with receiving the emergency call, coordinating between the different teams, and ending with transferring the injured person in accordance with approved medical protocols.

A full-scale drill is scheduled to be conducted at a later stage, during which Civil Defense and Ambulance equipment will be utilized, along with advanced simulations of emergency medical procedures at the Khaboura Health Complex. This integrated coordination among all concerned entities aims to enhance response effectiveness and ensure the safety of workers at vital operational sites.

Mawarid held its 2024 Town Hall on the 17th of September at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Sohar, with Managing Director Tariq Al Barwani leading the event. Tariq opened the gathering by expressing his appreciation to all Mawarid employees across divisions for their dedication, hard work, and resilience.

Deputy CEO Chris Jordinson provided an in-depth update on the company’s operational progress, including the milestone achievement of transporting the first shipments of copper concentrates from Lasail Concentrator to Sohar Port, ready for export.

The event also featured a speech by Khalid Al Busafi, Chief Human Resources Officer, who outlined recent advancements in employee benefits made possible with the support of the Shareholders. Khalid encouraged everyone to extend a warm welcome to the many new colleagues who have recently joined the Mawarid family.
